Zum Inhalt der CD:Atterberg für Streicher Eigentlich liegt der Zyklus aller Symphonien von Kurt Atterberg seit geraumer Zeit vollendet auf cpo vor und hat ja auch schon international genug Lob und Anerkennung eingeheimst. Für alle, die nun nach mehr Atterberg lechzen, gibt es frohe Kunde: 1955 arbeitete er sein Streichquintett op. 53 zur »Sinfonie für Streicher« um, die wir nun als Startpunkt für eine Neueinspielung –meist Erstaufnahmen- seiner zahlreichen Werke für Kammerorchester nehmen. Da gibt es seine vielgerühmten Suiten für wechselnde Soloinstrumente und viele kleinere Werke, wie auf der vorliegenden CD die letzte Komposition des 80jährigen Komponisten, das »Adagio amoroso«, ein melancholischer Abgesang auf und in einer Tonsprache, die 1967 schon der Vergangenheit angehörte. Ein schönes Beispiel für die große Charakterisierungskunst Atterbergs auch ohne großen Orchesterapparat ist die als »Suite Nr. 7« zusammengestellte Schauspielmusik zu Shakespeares »Antonius und Cleopatra« von 1926. Product Information Atterberg for Strings The cpo cycle featuring the complete symphonies of Kurt Atterberg has been complete for some time now and also has reaped its plentiful share of international praise and recognition. For all those who continue to thirst for more Atterber, we have good news: in 1955 he reworked his String Quintet op. 53 into the Symphony for Strings, a work forming the point of departure for our new project featuring his numerous works for chamber orchestra — most of them in recording premieres. These works include his much-praised Suite for various solo instruments and many shorter works such as the eighty-year-old composer s last composition, the Adagio amoroso, a melancholy farewell in a tonal idiom that in 1967 already was a thing of the past. A splendid example of Atterberg s magnificent art of characterization even without a large orchestral apparatus is formed by the Suite No. 7 bringing together the incidental music of 1926 to Shakespeare s Antony and Cleopatra.
