Zum Inhalt der CD: Milhaud mit Weltersteinspielungen Die neun Werke für Klavier und Orchester (darunter fünf Konzerte) von Darius Milhaud nehmen nicht nur im Gesamtschaffen des Komponisten, sondern auch historisch betrachtet in der französischen Musik eine besondere Stellung ein. Milhaud war zeitlebens ein sehr gefragter Komponist, der stets eine große Anzahl von Kompositionsaufträgen zu erfüllen hatte und darüber hinaus immer wieder Werke zum eigenen Gebrauch als Dirigent und Pianist schrieb. So verwundert es nicht, dass die Konzerte auf besonders charakteristische Weise Entwicklungen und Strömungen in Milhauds kompositorischer Ästhetik manifestieren, und dies über einen Zeitraum von 35 Jahren. Vom berühmten »Carnaval d Aix« bis zum fünften Klavierkonzert von 1955 finden sich hier die Stärken der Milhaudschen Musik in besonderem Maße vereint: Clarté und Esprit.
